A healthy lifestyle includes at least seven hours of uninterrupted sleep per night. Without it, you’re more likely to suffer from obesity, cognitive decline, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and perhaps even cancer. Once reason may be that sleep deprivation decreases insulin sensitivity. What that means is that your cells don’t recognize the hormone whose whole job is to usher glucose (blood sugar) into cells. Left stranded in your bloodstream, that excess glucose tends to lead to weight gain.
